Oh Podcasts! I honestly don’t know where I would be without them and can’t really remember a time when I didn’t have them to keep my company on the walk to work or on when I (on the very rare occasions) clean the house. If you are new to the world of Podcasts, or love them too and so always love a recommendation, then here are some of my favourites.
Best of Both Worlds with Laura Vanderkam and Sarah Hart-Ungar
I LOVE this Podcast. It is a must listen for me every week. In fact I’m often to be found refreshing my Podcast feed on a Tuesday morning to see if they have uploaded the new episode yet! This podcast focuses on combining motherhood with work and is packed with really useful tips for getting, you guessed it, the best of both worlds!
There are so many inspiring guests on this podcast and as Laura is a time management expert it is also really strong on great time management tips. More than anything though it gives you hope! Hope that it really is possible to do the things you love, whatever they may be, and be a great Mum too.
The Mom Hour with Meghan Francis and Sarah Powers
Ah I love the Mom Hour! (I promise not to say this about all the Podcasts!!) The Mom Hour is such a practical, down to earth listen. Meghan and Sarah don’t claim to be experts but have between them raised eight kids so they do have some idea what they are doing! What they do so well is to normalize the experience of being a Mum and all those phases your kid goes through.
Listening to the Mom Hour has really helped me to be prepared for each stage and to realise that these things really are a stage and so not to take everything quite so seriously. For example I was very well prepped for my son starting preschool by their episodes on the topic and so his rollercoaster of emotions that we’ve been on since he started last week has been no great surprise to us and we are riding it a lot easier than I think we would have if I hadn’t heard Meghan and Sarah’s great advice.
Didn’t I Just Feed You?! with Stacie Billis and Meghan Splawn
This is a fairly new Podcast to me but these two are absolutely hilarious! This podcast is all about feeding your kids with heaps of really great practical ideas from breakfasts on the go to dealing with picky eaters. I can already see that it is going to be a bit of a go to for this area and I’m now foisting Greek yogurt on my son constantly!
Motherhood Sessions with Alexandra Sacks
I really like listening to Podcasts of therapy sessions, does that make me a bit weird?! I also love Where Should We Begin with Esther Perel in this genre and as parenthood can give your relationship a bit of a battering I’d definitely recommend that one too. The Motherhood Session is, as the name suggests, sessions with Mum’s talking about their experience of Motherhood with a trained therapist.
They cover all sorts of issues from becoming a parent as an adopted child to making time for your own aspirations in the midst of parenthood. Again what I love about them is that they normalize our experiences and there is something fascinating about hearing other peoples fears and worries and realising you are not alone in the things that go on in your head!
